Teacher control and more!
The latest version of SMART Mirror introduces many exciting new features aimed at improving performance, usability, and the overall user experience.
Notes
- SMART Mirror 4.41 is: now available for displays with iQ 4.4.
- SMART Mirror 4.41 is coming soon to other compatible displays.
- Remote control feature is not available to displays running iQ3.
Connect as a Teacher
The new "Connect as a Teacher" feature gives educators full control over their sessions from anywhere in the classroom. Teachers can now decide who can share their screen, preventing uninvited presentations and ensuring lessons run smoothly.
It also integrates with Unlimited Connections, allowing teachers to invite the entire class for a more collaborative and inclusive learning experience. This feature simplifies classroom management, helping teachers stay in control with ease.
We want to ensure that teachers are the only ones who can control the session therefore we require that they sign in using their SMART account before connecting to the session. Once this is done, they are good to go!
Remote Control
Take full control of main display from your computer. Users can now navigate screen-sharing sessions and control the entire display, including the home screen, apps, and tools, directly from their device—providing flexibility and confidence to present from anywhere in the room.
To ensure security, Remote Control is only available to those who join through "Connect as a Teacher," ensuring that only authorized educators and presenters can manage the display.
Pen & touch improvements
Users can now write and erase over shared content using the pens and erasers included with the display (or their palm, if applicable). Fingers now function as a cursor tool, replacing the previous behavior where fingers were used for drawing.
This update provides a more consistent and natural interaction with the display.
Note: Pen color and eraser size are not supported in this release. These changes do not apply to touchback or the SMART Mirror Whiteboard, which is off by default.
Share a window with audio
Audio is now available when an individual window is shared using the SMART Mirror desktop apps for Windows and macOS. This ensures that multimedia audio works seamlessly, regardless of the sharing option selected.
Consistent join experience
Google Cast and Miracast now connect to sessions using the device's room name, just like AirPlay. This update creates a consistent user experience and eliminates the need to start a new session when enabling or disabling a casting service.
Note: For proper discovery, the Room Name must be unique on the network. Depending on the factory version of SMART iQ 4, additional steps may be required. See: Change the name for easier identification.
Discover this display
The web and desktop client apps now display a list of available receivers, making it easier to find and connect to the desired device with a single click.
This feature is optional and requires the client device to be on the same network as the receiver. For AirPlay both devices must also be on the same subnet or discoverable via BLE. This feature requires Bonjour to be enabled on the network. Consult the SMART Mirror networking guide for details.
Input devices
SMART Mirror now offers improved support for input devices, such as physical remote controls, enabling easier navigation on non-touch Android devices without relying on a mouse. This update enhances accessibility, making the app more user-friendly across a broader range of devices and users.
Client updates
In order to use many of the new features described above, users must upgrade to the latest client version (2.41).
When connecting to older receivers (prior to version 4.4.1) users will need to sign out of their teacher accounts first, or they will be presented with this warning. To do this, click the "x" in the "Connecting as" section.
